Temporary Generation assessment

Oil & Gas Operator / North Sea

Temporary Generation packages to support the base load on a North Sea oil and gas platform.

In preparation for platform decommissioning the Client was considering limiting the number of existing main generators in operation and supporting the electrical system load by installing a number of containerised generator (Genset) units.

Power system studies were carried out by Arc Flash Safety to evaluate the operation of the system with these additional temporary generators. A selection of market available Genset solutions and step-up transformers were considered.

Load Flow and short-circuit studies were performed to investigate the system operation limits. Additional motor starting studies assessed the ability to start the largest motor against the new generation lineup.
